Thanks for taking a crack at this.
No, the bold is not being applied by direct formatting.
I tried to just start fresh making a new style, TOC 6 to pair with
heading 3 text, and this weird "refuse to unbold" issue is there.
I'm using field codes to generate the TOC right now as follows:
{ TOC \h \z \t "Heading 1,1, Heading 2,2, Heading 3,3, Heading 9,5 }
(the heading 9 I'm using for the appendix)
So for this experiment, I used
{ TOC \h \z \t "Heading 1,1, Heading 2,2, Heading 3,6, Heading 9,5 }
For what it's worth, when I highlight the TOC 3 text , the regular
toolbar doesn't show it as being bold, but if I click the bold button
in the toolbar once, it unbolds the leader and page number and if I
click it a second time, the text, leader and page numbers are all
unbolded, but of course that only lasts until I update the table again.
