When I update a field (with the option "perserve formatting during
updates" selected) which references a bookmark with different
formatting, the first word is formatted correctly but the following
words are formatted similar to the bookmark the field references.  I
am using Microsoft Word Professional 2003.  Please help.

Add a \* charformat switch inside the closing } of the Ref field (Press
Alt+F9 to see the field codes) and then apply the desired formatting to the
R of Ref.
