This is what I did:

Created a numbered and bulleted list.
Saved the .doc.
When I opened the .doc again, the bullets and numbers had
disappeared!
Rnumbered or bulleted.
Saved again.
The entire doc becomes bulleted.
I undo the bullets.

How do I avoid this problem?
Thanks!

Hi Debra

I think the first order problem here is most likely that your Normal style
is set to Automatically Update. See

http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/WholeDocumentReformatted.htm

Possibly you have also got the 'Automatically update document styles' ticked
in Tools > Templates and Add-ins.

The second order problem is that bullets and numbering applied from the
toggle buttons are unreliable at the best of times - a better solution is to
use styles. See
