Troubleshooting for a friend who's not online yet.

She's running Win2000 & Office XP.  She's used it
previously w/o issue.  This time, when she started it up
it popped open w/two columns rather than a blank
document.  Going to "file- new" doesn't work- just opens
another two-column doc.

We tried un/reinstalling the whole Office suite & also
finding & deleting the "normal.dot" from within
the "search files/folders" function.  Lastly, tried to
adjust the window to as normal as possible & saving that
as the "normal.dot"-- nothing holds.  I'm willing to do
some registry hacking if someone here has a sure fix?

I searched Google all day & cannot figure this out.  Hate
to tell her I'll install Open Office instead??  I know
that works...
