I am working with financial statement where I have amounts
to the right of the page and have a single underlin and
sometimes a double underline.  I would like to change the
space between the text and the underlines, they are
appearing over the numbers. How can I fix this? Please
help.

Hi, Teresa,

The distance between the underline and the character is built into the font
and can't ne changed by Word.

But there are other ways to "make an underline", and one of the ones listed
at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm may work
better for you.
