I'm using Word 2000 and Windows 2000.  One of the things I
haven't been able to figure out how to turn off is Word's
insistance on applying outline paragraph labels, i.e., I.,
II., III., or 1., 2., 3., etc. to each new paragraph once
I start to do it manually.  I want to apply my own 1., 2.,
3., etc. and indents without any automated help from
Word.  How do I disable this "feature"?

Thanks,
Ray Mitchell

Hi Ray:

Tools / AutoCorrect / AutoFormat As You Type
clear the checkbox by "Automatic numbered lists."

In fact, you might as well clear out the top third of that
screen, and the bottom third.
