Setting styles in TOC level

I have a table of contents set up so it will use another style (not
Heading 1). In the TOC options I deleted "1" for heading 1" in the
"TOC level" and put a "1" for the style I created. It works fine, but
when I go back to the TOC options it reverts backs to the default
settings showing "1" for heading 1. How can I have it set up so that
every time I go to the TOC options it will show "1" for the style I
created and leave the "heading 1" blank?

Thanks.

You should not need to return to the dialog for the TOC in a given document.
You create the TOC once and never return to the dialog. You update the TOC
by pressing F9. If you want to save a specific TOC setup, you can save the
TOC field as an AutoText entry. For more on the nuts and bolds of TOC
fields, see http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/TOCSwitches.htm
