Is there a simple way to create hypertext links to a word
or sentence within a current Word 2002 document as it used
to be with Word 97 without using bookmarks?

I see my answer to this post got lost yesterday:
It has never been possible to create a hyperlink without a bookmark. Some
locations are automatically bookmarked (headings, numbered items, footnotes,
etc.).
