I have spent several hours customizing styles, redefining
default ones and creating new ones. I saved these to
a .dot file. When I attempt to attach this template to the
document in which I want to use them, Word locks up. Any
idea why or how to prevent it?

This is probably not the answer you want to hear, but you
may have corruption in your new template. Once corruption
enters a template, it is usually not good news. Try
recreating your steps and save again, perhaps saving a few
styles at a time while checking for problems by applying.

Hi &:-jesse\),

I agree about the damage; it might be in the template or the
document.

But I'd try using Tools/Customize/Organizer to copy the
styles across to new file, rather than trying to recreate
everything.
