Bytes counter in Word?

Is there a place in Word that showes me the total number
of bytes I've typed in a single document?

File/Properties/General tab. Look at the second section
down under the doc's title, Type: Location: Size:

...or look under "Tools > Count words..." for the actual number of letters
you have typed.
