In the article "How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in your
Microsoft Word document," at:

I am not able to duplicate the results described in the article. Using a
template name mytemplate.dot, I carefully follow the instructions up the the
point of  "Numbering for the first level." At his point, my results for
number format are different than those described in the article.

I am trying to achieve the following format:

1. heading 1 text

1.1 heading 2 text

1.1.1 heading 3 text

1.1.1.1 heading 4 text

However; this is what I am getting as I follow the intructions in the
article:

In Customize Outline Numbered List, after setting Link level to style for
levels 1 through 9, I set level to 1, and number format to 1,2,3, ... My
number format looks like this:

"1"

I set level to 2, and number format to 1,2,3, ..., and set previous level
number to Level 1. My number format looks like this:

"1.1"

(The Previous level number list box does not retain my selection but instead
is blank.)

I set level to 3, and number format to 1,2,3 ..., and set previous level
number to level 2. My number format looks like this:

"1.1."

(Again, the Previous level number list box does not retain my selection but
instead is blank.)

I set level to 4, and number format to 1,2,3, ..., and set previousl level
number to 3. My number format looks like this:

"11"

(This time the Previous Level number retains my setting of Level 3)

I set level to 5, and number format to 1,2,3, ..., and set previous level
number to Level 4. My number format looks like this:

"111"

Does anyone have any idea how to get this working properly?
