Help!  somehow I have the darned paragraph symbol and dots
between each word.  It used to work just fine but I guess
that I messed it up somehow.  How do I make those go away
and get it back to normal?

Click ¶ on the standard toolbar, keyboard shortcut might be cntl-8, if I
remember correctly.  If that doesn't work, see Tools | Options, View panel.

Keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+* (which is Ctrl+Shift+8 on U.S. keyboards).
