Formatting being applied to entire document

The probem that I am having is when I am trying to apply some formatting
option to one line (for expample bulleting a single line) Word 2000
applies a bullet to EVERY line in the document!

When I use the undo feature the extra bullets are removed and only the
one that I originally wanted appears correctly.  The same thing happens
when I bold something.

This also happens with other formatting options.  It is really
frustrating and time consuming because it takes a while to apply the
unwanted formating to large documents and takes equally as long to
remove them.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I have exactly the same problem. Had it with XP and now with 2003, and
if I remember rightly I had it with 2000 as well.

I certainly hope that someone comes up with a solution.

I just found the solution in another thread, and I can guarantee that it
works. Here it is:
