trouble using style template

I have two issues with a styles template.

1. Why would attaching a styles template, which I created,
cause the document to which it is attached to "lock up"
Word XP on opening? This has happened on different
computers.

2. Is there a reason that two documents cannot be attached
to the same template, and be open at the same time on the
same computer? I wonder if this is the problem I'm having
in #1 above.

Thanks!

Hi Jeanne,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a "styles template", but
if Word is locking up when you try attaching a particular
template to a document this could be a sign that the template
file is damaged. Or, if this isn't happening with all files,
then there could be a problem in the individual documents
(instead of the template).

May we assume you've activated the "automatically update
styles" option in Tools/Templates and Addins? And does the
document and/or the template contain and use numbering
styles? Which version of Word is involved (and in which
version were the files orginally created)?

And no, there is no problem with having multiple documents
attached to the same template and being opened.
