The Zoom ratio can make a big difference in this regard. Also, make sure
you're not using Draft font.

Found solution: There were actually two different causes, different on
each workstation exibiting the problem behavior.
1. Changing the setting Display-->Advanced-->DPI (using the normal/96
setting) fixed it on one of the workstations
2. Rechecking the installed fonts uncovered the problem on the other.
We didn't install ALL (just most) of the TrueType versions of the font
installed (we had all the PostScript versions, so reading the
installed font list we were fooled on our first check).
Thanks for the comment about view size, it helped narrow down the
issue (worked on one, failed on the other, leading me to believe there
could be two different issues).

Re: (2) Yep, if you don't have the Bold variant installed, Word won't
boldface!
