I am writing a very long manuscript.  On certain pages when I go back to
edit & start typing, Word97 deletes the letters as I type instead of
inserting my new information.

Please advise, what happened, what do I need to do to make this stop

Peggy,

Check at the bottom of the Word window, to see if the OVR
indicator is active.  If it is bold, press the "insert" (or
INS) key on you keyboard, and that problem should stop.

Peggy,
You may have accidently hit the Insert button on your keyboard whic
toggles the Insert/Overtype when typing option.  You can check this ou
by looking at the status bar at the bottom of the screen and if th
button OVR is black (not greyed out) then you are in Overtype mode.
Click on the Insert button once and it should go out - or you ca
double click on the button itself to toggle it.
Hope this helps,

Andre
