Is there a way to maintain a format of odd/even page
borders?

You mean different page borders on odd and even pages, beyond what you can
achieve with "Mirror margins"? You'll have to check "Different odd and even"
on the Layout tab of Page Setup, then create the page borders as graphics
anchored to the Odd/Even Page Header.
