MS Office Forum / Word / Long Documents / November 2003sorting
I have multiple pages that I need to alphabetize. Currently it only alphabetizes each page and I need it to do this for all pages. How can this be done? Are you selecting the entire document before sorting? If these are labels created by a mail merge, then you're sorting in a table, and each page is a separate table because Word inserts a section break at the end of each sheet of labels. -- Suzanne S. Your best bet is to convert the labels into a database, which you can sort and use as a data source for a mail merge. You may not like it, but this is the only way to accomplish what you want to do; labels cannot be sorted because they are set up as a table, and tables can be sorted on only one row at a time. -- Suzanne S. I can stretch them to make the characters fit each field but then it loses the second field from the first. They have to be together. I would rather have both fields fit together as close to the label format as possible. It doesn't have to be exact. Also, when I add labels it skips a line and/or a label space on the actual label document, not the source document. Use Excel (recommended in your case) or Access to do this work. Using Excel Just try to export and import your data in the following way: 1. "Table | Convert | Table to text" 2. Copy the text into *.txt 3. Open a blank Excel 4. Choose "File | Open | Open *.txt" 5. Follow the instruction of Excel to import your data Use Excel and you can get rid of your problem. Also Excel should be more than enough in your case.
