Style for bullets in list

I'm having difficulty selecting the actual bullet (circle,
square, star) when I set up a style for a list  How is
this done?  

Windows 2000.

I think we need a bit more information to go on. Are you modifying a
bulleted style? What are you trying to achieve? And how are you
modifying the style?

I'm trying to set up a style for a list, and I don't know
how to select the type of bullet to put within the style.
Does the style automatically select a certain type of
bullet?

Are you creating a "list style" or a style that is bulleted? In either case,
there is a button at the bottom of the dialog that says Format... Click on
this and choose Numbering. You'll get a dialog from which you can choose a
numbering style (numbers or bullets) using Customize...
