Hi, "Suzanne S. Barnhill".

I sent you 2 replies (1 for text reply; 1 for file
attachment). All got blocked.

I see the difference between our reference cases. When
the mouse pointer
is pointed to the "cross-reference-made" footnote, it
will change into the following in different docs:
My doc: finger
Your doc: note (with a pen beside)

You need to tell me exactly what you did in minute
details.

I have a sample file which will not
update automatically (comments are included in the
document, so make sure you change the setting to make
comments viewable).

If you wish to take a look at it, just email me and
enable/permit me to send files to you.

Many thanks.
Suzanne S. Barnhill - 21 Nov 2003 17:04 GMT
I have not blocked any files from you, nor do I have any filters in effect
that would have blocked them. What was the subject line?

If you have any news (no matter good or bad), just inform
me by email or in any way at will.

By the way, I am interested to know how can you make a
auto-updatable cross reference.

Your detailed steps to make a cross reference and
hyperlink should be stated.

For me, I have to press F9 - onlt to the extent of
manually updatable.

Are you claiming that the cross-references in the document I sent you did
not behave for you the way they do for me? I created them in the way I have
already described to you.

No.
But it is just I can't duplicate what you can do.
I tried to duplicate one, but it didn't update
automatically.

In your document, it did.

I think the difference is caused by the following:
When the mouse pointer is pointed to the "cross-reference-
made" footnote, it will change into the following in
different docs:
My doc: finger
Your doc: note (with a pen beside)

What version of Word are you using? Did you add a hyperlink to the
cross-reference as described?

MS Word 2002 (Eng Version)

The step of creating the document:
1.    Select "Insert | Reference | Footnote" to insert
footnote 1.
2.    Select "Insert | Reference | Footnote" to insert
footnote 2.
3.    Select ""Insert | Reference | Footnote | Cross-
Reference", "Footnote | Footnote number (formatted)" to
insert footnote 2.
4.    Bookmark the space between the footnote 2 at the
bottom and its text
5.    hyperlink footnote 2.

It is better if you can read my doc with the above
illustration, but now...

Not quite, I think (BTW, if you want to try sending your doc again, it
should get through now).

The step of creating the document:

1. Select "Insert | Reference | Footnote" to insert footnote 1.

2. Select "Insert | Reference | Footnote" to insert footnote 2. (Note that
after you have your footnote format established, you don't need to return to
the dialog. You can use Ctrl+Alt+F to insert a footnote.)

3. Select "Insert | Reference | Cross-Reference", "Footnote | Footnote
number (formatted)" to insert a cross-reference to footnote 2.

4. Bookmark the space between the footnote reference mark of footnote 2 and
its text.

5. Select the cross-reference to footnote 2 and Insert | Hyperlink: Bookmark
to hyperlink it to the bookmark you just inserted.

So strange. Your steps seems to be absolutely the same as
mine, but I can't do what you do.

What's going wrong?

Another mystery has yet to be solved.
A piece of email is sent. Check to see if you can receive.
