Convert addresses to database

I have a list of addresses I want to put on envelopes. I have Office XP and
cannot find any way to convert the existing data to a mailmerge file. I
thought I used to do this in an older version (97? 95? older?) Isn't there
a simple way to convert addresses to database information?

Got it. Had to modify by hand and import to Access. I thought I used to be
able to have Word do it by itself.
