mapi failure: Operation not supported

I just loaded office 2007 on an XP pc. When I try to email a word document,
from word, I get a mapi error: "mapi failure: Operation not supported". This
error message only appears if Outlook is running. If outlook is not running
the document can be sent as an attachment without any problems.

Any ideas?
