I have Word 2003 and WinXP SP2.  I have created a word file and saved it in
.docx format.  In Word 2003, if I try to send the document as an attachment,
it attaches the document as an .wps format.  Has anyone else experienced
this?  I tried to Google it but did not find any information on this
specific issue.

What is the purpose of saving it in docx format (actually I am not aware
that Word 2003 has that capability, are you sure that you do not mean Word
2007?)?  Even if you have Word 2007, I would recommend that you save the
documents in doc format so that the people to whom you send it will be able
to open it without having to be bothered obtaining the compatability pack.

You can install a compatability pack for 2003 which will read Office 2007
files.  http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101686761033.aspx.

I upgraded the clients computer to Office 2007 which obviously solved the
issue.
