Is there a way, other than envelope mode, to have the print readable
sidewise. Word 2007

In a table, text can be rotated plus or minus ninety degrees.  You can
remove the border from the table if you do not want it to appear.

To invoke this feature, right click in the cell and select Text Direction
from the shortcut menu that appears.

Thank you Doug, I will experiment with this soon. Trying to get a method of
printing envelopes using black cartridge. No problem "envelopes in word
2003" but 2007 forces color cartridge which I do not install.
Thank you
