Resolved my problem by installing MS Office 2002.
I was reluctant to do this as it seemed a duplication of email programs and
last I had heard Office had no Newsgroup reader.

Office 2002 in addition to email reading, it seems has newsgroup reader
capabilities as well as Envelope/address Book compatibility with Word2002
the same as MS Exchange had with W95B.

After learning MS Office has the functionality I require I can also remove
my standalone Calendar program and go with the Office calendar feature.
All-in-all not a bad solution to a complicated prolem.
