Problem with labels

I have Word 2003.  I cannot seem to get labels to print
correctly on the page.  I have checked and triple checked
that I am using the correct template (in this case Avery
8160 / 5160) and no matter what I do, the lables start
printing about an inch down from the top of the page.

I have never used Word 2003 before - Word 2000 being my
last version and had no problems.  Is there some setting
I need that tells Word 2003 where to begin?  Again, I
have gone over the options of the label template itself
and all looks well.  I also know this is not a printer
problem because I tried this on two different printers.

Can anybody help?

Do you have a header in your normal.dot template?  Even just a header with a
few paragraph marks in it?

How do I check if I have a header?  I mean, I know that
documents come with headers and that, in the page setup,
you can work with the setup of these headers.  If I have
a header, I don't know it's there.  All I did was
cut/paste the address into a Word 2003 doc, highlight the
address, went into Envelopes/Labels and proceeded from
there.  Like I've done a hundred times in previous
versions of Word.  Not sure what to check.

Thanks for your help so far.

In Print Layout view, click on the ? button and see if there are any
"greyed-out"  ?s at the top of the page.

Or, with Word not running, locate and rename the normal.dot template to
normal.old and then restart Word and try you labels again.

Hi Doug

I attempted to answer your email as I had some screen
shots.  It came back unsent.

In short - I tried what you suggested - there are no
greyed out areas and, renaming normal.dot didn't help
either.  Not sure I like this new Word 2003 <harumph>.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Liana,

Send me a document containing a page or so of the labels and I will look at
it.  It might however be that you need an updated driver for your printer.

I am 99.9% certain that there has been no change in Word in this area
between 2000 and 2003.

Hi Doug

I'm sure it's some setting that I have that isn't right,
not Word 2003.  I just got a brand new computer (Dell),
preinstalled MSOffice.  That's why this is so
frustrating...

In any case, I sent the info you requested.  Did you get
it?  I'm still not sure about your email addy.

Thanks again.
