I do not know the name of the symbol and I can't type it, but it looks like a
backwards P (letter p). How do I get rid of it or is there a way that I can
re-set  all my setting as default?  Thank you,

Chris

The symbol that you are seeing ? is the end of paragraph marker.  You can
turning it off either by clicking on the ? button on the toolbar or from the
Tools menu, select Options and then go to View tab and uncheck the box
against End of Paragraph Marks.
