Mail merge labels

I used the wizard to create mailing labels in Word via my
Outlook contacts.  Page one, with the first 30
names/address is fine, then page 2 starts with name two,
(versus name 31), page 3 begins with name 3 (versus 61),
etc.  I have used the 'next record' function within each
mailing label.

Help!!!
Thanks
Doug

It sounds as if you are "previewing" the merge - you have actually to
execute the merge (e.g. either to merge to a printer or, if you want to be
sure of your results, merge to a new document). How to do this depends on
your version of Word and how you set up the merge - in Word 2002, make sure
you go through /all/ the steps in the Wizard (to step 6, I think. In Word
2002 or earlier, have a look on the merge toolbar for the merge to
print/merge to document buttons.

Thanks Peter, for the quick response.  I tried to merged
to a new document ,but because of the problem ,the number
of records created (for my approx 1,200 name database) was
well over 25,000+ records and then my system hung?

I know I am making a simple mistake, the outcome is too
silly?

OK, let's check a few things. You should obviously only be getting 40
sheets:
a. Which version of Word?
b. Is the type of the merge definitely "Labels" ? (I'm not sure this is
relevant but it may be)
c. When you are previewing, are you definitely getting 30 /different/
labels on the page?
d. If you use the preview buttons (in the mail merge toolbar  in Word 2000,
in the wizard taskbpane in Word 2002 and later) to the beginning and end of
the list of records, are you definitely only seeing 1200 or so?
e. Is there only one page in the mail merge main document?

If necessary, e-mail me a copy of your document - you'll need to despam my
address:

I went in through Outlook to create the merge, and it
worked fine?  Don't know what was going wrong in Word.
Anyway, to answer your questions below...

a) word 2002
b) yes, "labels", then I selected one of the standard
Avery templates for address
c)yes, preview looks like the final merged doc with 30
labels on page 1 (1-30), then the same problem, page 2
has labels (2-31) and page 3 has labels 3-33, etc?
d) I am using the preview buttons, but have not been able
to get far into the document, say page 50, because Word
will hang.
e) yes, only one page.

Thanks for your help.

Glad you found a workaround - I don't have any additional ideas why it was
going wrong.
