Mail Merge with Large File

Hope someone out there can help - I have a very large file that I need to use
for a mail merge.  It resides on an IBM AS/400.  There are many more than 255
columns/fields in the file, and I've been trying to download this into Excel,
Access, even directly into Word's mail merge, but keep maxing out because of
the columns.  Breaking the file up into smaller files and trying to use joins
hasn't worked either.  Short of reducing my file to only 255 fields, does
anyone have any suggestions on how I can do this?

Thanks in advance,
WWalsh

Download the data as a comma delimited text file and use that as the data
source for the mail merge.

Or use Excel 2007 from which the 255 column limit has been removed

Thank you - are there any limitations to the file and/or record size that I
can download and use as a data source?
