putting numbers in merged document

I am trying to put numbers into a merged document, actually dollars and
cents.  The result are not showing the dollar sign ($) and the decimals is
wrong.  How do I correct this.

Which version of Word are you using, and what's the data source? Excel?
Access? Something else?
