Using Access2000 data source

Hello All

I have a document in Word2003 that I want to do a mail merge with, using an
Access2000 mdb as data source. The problem is that I seem to be unable to
use a query from the mdb - only a table. I don't know whether this is
because of a Word2003/Access2000 incompatibility, or something else - but
surely I'm not trying to do the impossible?

Hope someone can help.
Many thanks

It may be an issue with the way that the connection is being made to the
data source.  From the Tools menu in Word, select Options and then go to the
General tab and check the box against the item "Confirm conversions at
open."  Then when you attach the data source to the mailmerge main document,
you will be presented with a dialog in which you can select the method by
which the attachment should be made.  Try the DDE option.

Doug
Aren't these newsgroups great!
I did as you suggested and immediately I was presented with the option of
selecting a query as data source!
Many thanks.

Hmmm. DDE usually only works between Word+Access from the same version of
Office. You can try Doug's suggestion, but I don't think it will work.

However, if these queries use any wildcards (* or ?), then you're likely
running into a conflict between the default OLE DB connection in Word 2003
(uses the ANSI-92 query syntax) and the Access 2000 reliance on ANSI-89.
Follow the steps Doug outlines, but choose the ODBC connection method.
