MS Office Forum / Word / Mailmerge and Fax / September 2006Word 2003 maintain lines in document when data field is blank
I have recently upgraded from Word 2000 to 2003. I used to merge data from Excel to pages of Certification Cards for healthcare. I did not always have data in the fields, but needed to maintain the line (as blank) in the finished product. In Word 2000 I used the catalog Mailmerge method and select from options offered, the Maintain Blank Lines if the field data was empty. I still need to do that, but don't see this offered as an option. I presume I use the Directory merge. How do I do this?  Signaturekitsrball If you have a field on a line with a paragraph mark then that line will be reproduced with or without the content of the field. As you thought Directory and catalog are the same. You can find this option by re-enabling the old Mail merge Helper - Tools|Customize|Commands, select category All Commands in the list on the left, locate MailMergeHelper in the list of commands on the right and drag it to a menu or toolbar.
