How to keep original date on document, do not update date on docu

I fax documents on a cover sheet or documents with date, when I save it and
bring it back up, the date changes to the current date. The purpose for
saving the document is to be able to document some information and when the
dates to current date, it defeats the purpose of the document saved!

How do I set it so the date will not change to current date?????

The reason is that you have inserted a date field which shows the system
date. What you need to do is change those date fields for createdate
fields - ALT+F9 change {DATE \@ "d MMM yyyy"}or {TIME \@ "d MMM yyyy"} to
{CREATEDATE \@ "d MMM yyyy"} then F9 and ALT+F9 - and change the date in
your letterhead template so that future letters based on it show the correct
dates. The switches \@ "d MMM yyyy" may be different at your location.

I don't understand where I need to go to createdate fields. I am a novice and
need exactly where I need to find the createdate, where do I need to be in
order to press ALT+F9???????

You need to have the errant document (or template) on screen.
Then follow the instructions in my previous post!
Press ALT+F9 to toggle the display to show field constructions
Change the field from {TIME} or {DATE} to CREATEDATE, by simple typing
within the brackets. Leave any switch eg \@ "d MMM yyyy" untouched.
Update the field (F9) and the creation date will be shown when you toggle
the display back again (ALT+F9)
If you are using a template that automatically inserts the date, open that
template in Word and change the field there. Don't worry about the date
shown which will be the date the template was created. New documents created
from that template will have their correct creation dates displayed.
If you are not using a template either insert the date as text or insert a
CREATEDATE field from the Insert field dialog (or simply type it using
CTRL+F9 to create the curly brackets).

When you have the finished document on screen, press CTRL + A to highlight
your whole document and then press CTRL + 6 this will convert any fields in
the document into the equivalent text and when you have saved and re-opened
it nothing will change.
