Is it possible to insert a merge field into the subject
line when merging to email using MS Word 2000?  If not, I
have Word 2002, but went back to 2000 because I didn't
like the "Improvements" to Mail Merge, but can reinstall
Office 2002 if necessary.

If you were using Mailmerge Events in Word 2002 to insert the subject, the
answer is "not using that approach" because there are no such events in Word
2000, although Doug Robbins has recently (last couple of days) posted
something that may help you on this one.
