Even though I have a contact list in Outlook, my Word mail merge won't
recognize it for a label merge. My contact list is in a personal folder and
if that's the problem, how do I get it out?

Have you tried selecting the contacts you want to merge in Outlook, then
using Outlook Tools|Mail Merge to initiate the merge? Setting up the folder
so you can connect to it from within Word may be feasible but it's not
really necessary if the other method works.

See http://www.gmayor.com/mailmerge_from_outlook.htm
or
Ensure the contacts list has its property > outlook address book > show this
folder as an e-mail address book is checked.
