The address block is preformatted with 15 or so lines. I only need 3. How do
I prevent extra space that is built into the address block for all 15 lines
and have it print only the 3 I am using, one after the other with no space in
between? Thanks.

In your walk through the mail merge dialog you get to "arrainge label"
dialog.  You might select the address block section.  You get a dialog box
that gives you options.

in the bottom left corner of that dialog box is a button "match fields"

click on that and then match the fields that you need and leave the others
"not matched"

press ok and return to the mail merge dialog, click on "update lables" and
you should be good to go.

In this case, don't use the ADDRESSBLOCK field. Use individual fields.
