Hi Can someone help?

I'm trying to Collect date from an Excell file using Mail
merge in Word 2002 (Skip if Not equal to "Date" then
inserting "using fill-in to request" a date like(04-Jan-
04).

When the date is unique I get one result.
When the days are the same I get multiple results; like
(04 Jan), (04 Jun) and (04 Jul).  How do I tell mail
merge to look at the whole date not just the day?

Thanks,
Mr K

Hi Mr K,

In the If...Then...Else field in the mailmerge main document, add a date
formatting switch such as \@ "d MMMM yyyy" to the { MERGEFIELD "DateField"
\@ "d MMMM yyyy" } part of the field

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested.  Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps

Hi Doug,

I'm not using any If..Then...Else statements.

{Skipif{Mergefield Date} <> "{fillin "Enter Date"\d "04-
Jan-04"\o}"}

This is the first line of the program the rest of the
program consist of {Mergefield "Lectors"}type commands.
Just information directly from Excel.
The first line should compare the Excel date "04-Jan-04"
with what is entered in the "Fill-in" "04-Jan-04".  It
returns the "04 dates" for Jan, Jun and Jul.  How do I
get it to look at the whole date correctly and just
return 04-Jan-04 data?

Thanks,
Mr K

I would suggest that you try incorporating the formatting switch into the
{Mergefield Date}.  Also, I am not sure that the 04-Jan-04 should be
enclosed in quotes.

Hi Doug,

I don't seem to be able to get dates to be recognized
correctly in Mail-Merge, even adding switches.  Puting
the dates in as "text" works fine.

A constructive critism, I hope.  Why can't the "MVPs"
provide examples instead of suggesting or as in some
cases answer a question with a question.  Also why does
MS charge to give customers help on problems when the
documentation is so poor.  It either explains the mundane
or gives examples so complex that only the experienced
can follow it.  MS should have a primer on Mail-Merge
with simple, normal and complex examples.

Anyway, Thank you for your time and help.
