I remember reading somewhere in Word 2003, that if the NAME etc in a DATA file was blank you can set an option to replace that blank field to read "Dear Sir or Madam".  Can anyone help with this annoying thing!  Thanks

I believe you're looking for the GREETING LINE field. There should be an entry for this in the mail merge wizard, and a button on the toolbar.
