I am trying to do a mail merge and everything is working fine until I click
Edit Individual Letters in the merge toolbar.  Word 2003 brings up my letters
in a new document to edit but it adds extra spaces between the fields of the
last line of my address.  I tried manually deleting the extra spaces between
the fields but this just ended up mashing the fields together with no spaces.
The addresses look normal in the Preview your letters section.  I don't
understand why this is happening.

I solved this on my own.  I just copied the exact same address fields from a
different letter template I had saved and pasted them on top of the address
fields in the problem letter.  This seems to have resolved the problem,
though I still don't know why this happened in the first place.
