I am new at using field codes. I am creating a template that others will use. It has FILLIN boxes that will pop up and ask questions, they will fill in their amounts, then I need a Field equation that will add up the two fillin boxes?  Example: How many dogs?  10, How many cats?   5.....then the new field would automatically fill in with 15. I keep getting syntax errors.

Newbie,

It doesn't sound like you are performing a mail merge.  A
FILLIN field does not have a bookmark.  In your example,
the number of dogs "10" is the result of one fillin field
and cats "5" the result of another.  How are you
identifying these values in the equation?  If you bookmark
the "10" and call it dogs, then bookmark the 5 and call it
cats, you can insert { =sum(dogs, cats) } with the curly
brackets { } inserted using CTRL+F9 to return a result of
15.
