You posted a question about *Works* to a mishmash of Word and Windows
newsgroups, and you have the effrontery to tell the person who tried to
assist you (who, by the way, is a consummate "Word expert") that she should
become more knowledgeable about *Works* in order to help future users? If
microsoft.public.works.win is such a superior NG, why didn't you post your
*Works* problem there?
The advice that Cindy gave you was spot on: if you are starting a merge from
Works, you need to ask in a Works NG. This is very different from completing
a merge from within Word. And if you aren't planning to start a Word mail
merge from within Works, then you need to uninstall the add-in. Most of us
here know little about Works or Works Suite except that the Microsoft Works
Suite Add-in for Word causes untold problems in Word run freestanding, which
is the way most Works Suite owners use it (having bought Works Suite because
that is the cheapest way to get Word).

> Cindy,
> You didn't give us the correct solution. We had a Word expert fix the problem. The correct solution is Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 269281.
Please become familiar with this so others can be helped promptly and
accurately.

Thank you :-) My response might not have been so temperate!
I really prefer to try to help people who ask off-topic
questions, if I can, rather than just saying "you're
posting in the wrong place", but this kind of reaction
makes me more inclined to not waste my time... Thank
heavens most seekers are more aware and gracious!

I am familiar with the work of Suzanne Barnhill and Cindy Meister, from the
Word newsgroups. I have used posts from both to aid myself greatly. I have
serious difficulties understanding computereze, but Suzanne and Cindy are
among those I can understand, and I have used their help, along with that of
other MVPs, often and in detail.
Suzanne, thank you for taking the trouble to set things straight.
