Word X 'quits' when I pull up my database doc

OK ... I've gotten ALL the addresses put into a merge doc and saved it.
When I try to pull it up - to add to it - the whole application quits!!!
What do you suggest? My son talked me into using WORD instead of
Appleworks ...

We need to know which version of Word you're using? (Look in Help/About if
you don't know)

Then, can you describe what technique you used to store these addresses?
Did you put them in a table, for example? Or did you use certain commands
in the Word interface (which ones)?

Do you get any error message when Word "quits"?

In the File/Open dialog box there's a list at the bottom for file types.
If you choose "Recover text from any document", then select the address
file, will it open without crashing Word? If yes, can you see any of the
address information?
