At home, I set up a Word 2000 mail merge file that works very well
using odbc.
Here at work, I use Word 2002 and am trying to get that 'home' merge
file to work.  After reading this group I know I have to select
Tools---->Options----> General---->Confirm Conversion at Open.  When
the confirm dialogue comes up I choose odbc as my connectivity.  I do
connect okay but in Word 2002 every time I do something, let's say in
the Edit Recipients option, all the records in the the database (about
6500) get read.  My recollection from home is that that did not happen
when using odbc with Word 2000.  Is there any way to prevent the
records being read using Word 2002?

Hi Barry,

The problem is the Recipients dialog box. If you can avoid that, things
will work more like in Word 2000.

1. Use the toolbar to connect to the data, not the Wizard
2. Use the older "Mail merge..." button or Mail Merge Helper to get to
the Query Options (see the Word 2002 section on my website if you don't
know where to find these commands)

Your suggestion(s) worked.  Thank you.
