Hi-
Is there a way to change the default datasource path that
opens when you start a mail merge?
All our DBs are all on the network and it would save time
if that was possible.  I've looked, but can not find
anything.
Apprciate any help/ideas you might have!
thanks - Cindy

The path is stored in the registry on a per user basis at

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\DataServices

where 10.0 is the Word version - here Word 2002
You should be able to create a patch simply enough to merge into the users'
registries.

Thanks you so much for this info.
Heres what happens - if I change that path to any folder
under the User\My Documents.... it works great.
If I change it to C:\ or a mapped drive... the Datasource
Browse opens at the (same) user\My Documents.
If I change the path to the UNC name, it actually creates
new folders, by that name, (ex: \\CWC\sys\ )- created a
CWC folder and sys subfolder under My Documents of the
logged in user.
Seems to be like it might be some profile related issue???
Anyhow - what I want to change it to is a mapped network
drive -
Any other recommendations?  thanks for your time and
help!!!

I think you'd be best off asking this in the
word.setup.networking group, perhaps with a cross-post at
the same time to the office.setup group. The regulars there
are more likely to be familiar with profiles, policies and
how to map the folders.

FWIW, you could put a short-cut to the mapped drive in the
folder Word is insisting on using so that the user can at
least quickly navigate to the mapped drive location.
