When I try to ues the Word 2003 Mail merge "wizard" to Select recipients
(step 3 of 6), after choosing "Select from Outlook contacts," when I click
on "Choose Contacts Folder," I get an error message, which says,

"This operation cannot be completed because of dialog or database engine
failures. Please try again later."

Trying again later does not help.

Office 2003 components, Word 2003 and Outlook 2003. Windows XP Pro.

Closing Outlook does not help.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks, JR

As a workaround, I suggest you initiate the merge from Outlook by selecting
the Contacts folder you require and using Outlook Tools|Mail merge...

I have the exact same problem as JR except I am using
Word 2002 and Outlook Express 6.  There is no mail merge
in Outlook Express.  Any other suggestions?

Word can't use the OE6 address book directly as a data source (unless you
also have Works Suite, or unless the OE address book is shared with the
Outlook address book). You have to export the addresses your need from OE
first, then use that file as the data source for a merge.
