apparently, a macro is executing and trying to connect a
data source?

Which version of Word are we dealing with? What's your
macro security setting (Tools/Macro/Security)?

If you see an active "Debug" button in the error message,
click it. Note which line is highlighted in yellow. Copy
the entire "Sub" it stands in into your reply.

Thanks for your reply,
The thing that is trying to run is a link between
GoldMine business contact manager and MS Word. Normally
this link is fine and mail merges work ok.

I assume that with this you don't want to say that
everything is OK now... If this is something over which you
have no control, then you need to contact the company that
is responsible for Goldmine.
