NOTE:  The document I am working on used to work in previous versions of Word.

I am trying to create a word mail merge and use a med-sized Excel 2002 file as my source document.  The problem I am having is that one of the Excel columns contains 2000 characters and when I execute the merge (to a new document), Word 2002 is truncating the length of the field and only allowing 255 characters to display in the final merged document.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Am I correct in understanding that this happens when you've linked in the
Excel file as the data source in Word 2002? This isn't a mail merge link
that already existed in the previous version of Word?

Go to the Mail Merge FAQ on my website and in the Word 2002 section read up
on the information how Word is connecting to data sources, and how you can
change the connection method. Then try DDE, ODBC and Word's internal
spreadsheet converter; see if one of these gives you a better result.
