My question pertains to Word 2002 and Access 2002 on the
XP platform;

I no longer get the option to connect to my access
databases via DDE. All I get when I open a data source is
a simple gui showing all tables and some of the queries.
How do I get these connection options back?

I have been using Word 2002 and Access 2002 on the XP
platform for 9 months now to create mail merge documents.
Some of these previous documents use the exact same query
that I am trying to use now.

What caused these options to disappear?

You can get Word to use the default connection method from previous versions
of Word by setting up the mail merge using the Mail Merge Helper.  (Tools>
Customize>Commands>All Commands and drag it onto a toolbar or menu.  Or, you
can manually select the connection method. In order to choose the preferred
connection method by selecting Options from the Tools menu and going to the
General tab and checking the box alongside "Confirm conversions on open"
