in need of help - 24 Feb 2004 17:26 GMT
I am building a word template for the company that I am working for and it needs to have check boxes, and it als
needs to insert an address from an access database. My problem is that the document needs to be protecte
in order to use the check boxes, but I can't use mail merge unless it's unprotected. Is there an easy way to be
able to use the check boxes, but still be able to insert an address from an access database? Right now it's too
complicated for the employees to use because they have to keep protecting and unprotecting it in order to ente
all the information. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends, partly on how your document is laid out and partly on whether
you think VBA is "easy".

If the address is in a different part of the document from the checkboxes,
you may be able to use a continuous section break to separate the "form"
part of the document from a free text part. Protect the form section, leave
the other section unprotected, and you should be able to do whatever you
want in the unrotected portion.

If that isn't possible, you can define a macro that does what you need
(including unprotecting the document) and attach it to a toolbarbutton or
menu option. The button/option should be available even when the form is
protected. But then you may have to work a bit harder if you want to
preserve the contents of the form fields and avoid having the users
accidentally damage the document once it is unprotected.
