Respected Sirs,

On 23.02.2004 we came to know that all our office files have become
corrupted.

We use one folder name 'msoffice' in Novell Server. There are several
sub-folders as per different users. Users save all their office files in
those folders. 95% of the existing files have become corrupted at a time.

We have latest updated Symantec Antivirus Coporate Edition. We have regular
scheduled scan at server level and PC level.

We are not getting anything in the properties of any file.

Any kind of solution in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

[B. Pandey]

Are these files only Word files?  In what way are they corrupted?

I would like to inform you that what type of corruption I have detected
therein.

Both Word and Excel files have been corrupted.

Normally if we select an file[icon] and look at the properties, [at
windows98] we find five tabs ie, General, Summary, Statistics, Contents,
Custom, Netware version. Netware version we find since we are using Novell.

But from the corrupted files we are getting only two tabs ie, General and
Netware version.

Whenever we are opening Word files, we look square type box characters all
around in the text area.

Whenever we are opening Excel files, we are getting an error message like
hereunder and thereafter a blank worksheet.

"This file is not in a recognizable format."

We have gone through the File Recovery of Office 2003 as per guideline of
Microsoft 'Recover the text from a damaged document' and Repairing corrupted
files in Excel' but failed to get any solution.

Any kind help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

[B. Pandey]

Sounds like you had better make use of the backup from your server.  You do
back up the files on your server don't you?
